Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions before restoring your photos? Here are the most common things families ask about photo quality, AI-assisted restoration, colorization, delivery, and what to expect.
Photo Quality & What We Can Restore
What types of photos can you restore?
We can work with many types of old photographs, including black-and-white, sepia, yellowed, faded, scratched, creased, damaged, and vintage color photos. We can also enhance many older color photos by improving clarity, contrast, and overall detail.
Can you fix blurry photos?
Sometimes, but this is one of the biggest limitations of AI-assisted restoration.
If a photo is slightly soft, faded, yellowed, or low contrast, we may be able to improve clarity and bring out more visible detail. However, if faces or important features are very blurry, tiny, out of focus, or missing entirely, there may not be enough real information in the image to restore accurately.
AI can enhance what is already there, but it cannot truly recover facial details that were never captured clearly in the original photo. In those cases, the technology may have to estimate or recreate missing details, which can change how a person looks.
For the best and most accurate results, please upload the clearest, highest-resolution version of your photo.
What photos work best?
Clear, high-resolution scans usually produce the best results. Phone photos of a photo are welcome too, as long as they are well-lit, in focus, and free from glare. The better the original image, the better the restoration can be.
Can you restore damaged, scratched, or faded photos?
Yes, many damaged, scratched, creased, stained, yellowed, or faded photos can be improved. Results depend on the condition of the original image, but even imperfect photos can often be turned into meaningful digital keepsakes.
AI-Assisted Restoration & Colorization
Is this an AI-assisted service?
Yes. Yesterday Restored uses AI-assisted technology to restore, enhance, and colorize old photographs. Every image is reviewed by a real person before delivery with the goal of creating a beautiful, respectful version of your original photo.
Are colorized photos historically accurate?
Not always. Black-and-white and sepia photographs do not contain original color information, so colors are artistically estimated. Clothing, flowers, vehicles, buildings, and other details may appear in colors that differ from the original scene.
Can I provide known color details?
Yes. During upload, you can include known color details, such as “dress was blue,” “truck was red,” or “flowers were white.” If you are uploading multiple photos, please reference the file name so we know which image your note applies to.
Can you colorize black-and-white photos?
Yes. Black-and-white photos can often be thoughtfully colorized to create a warmer, more lifelike version while preserving the people, expressions, clothing, and feeling of the original image.
Can you improve old color photos?
Yes. Older color photos can often be enhanced by improving contrast, clarity, fading, yellowing, and overall detail. The goal is not to make the photo look fake or overly modern, but to bring out the best version of the image you already have.
Ordering & Uploading
How do I upload my photos?
Choose the package that fits the number of photos you want restored, then upload your photo or photos directly on the product page before adding the package to your cart.
How many photos can I upload?
Please upload the number of photos included in your selected package:
- One Memory includes 1 photo
- Family Favorites includes 5 photos
- Family Archive includes 15 photos
What file types can I upload?

Do I need to scan my photo?
No. A scan is ideal, but it is not required. You can also take a clear picture of the photo with your phone. Place the photo on a flat surface, use good lighting, avoid glare, and make sure the whole photo is visible.
What if I’m not sure how to upload my photo?
That’s okay. Choose your package, click the upload button, and select the photo from your phone or computer.
Delivery & Files
Do I receive a printed photo?
No. All restorations are delivered as high-resolution digital files. You can download the restored image and print, frame, or share it however you’d like.
What does “digital file” mean?
A digital file means your restored photo will be emailed to you as an image you can save on your phone or computer. You can then print it, frame it, text it to family, or share it online.
How long does it take?
Most orders are delivered within 1–2 business days. Larger orders may take slightly longer depending on the number and condition of the photos.
How will I receive my restored photos?
Your restored digital files will be delivered by email. If it's been over 2 business days and you have not yet received the email, please check your spam or junk box to make sure it didn't go there.
Can I print the restored image?
Yes. Your restored file is delivered digitally and can be printed, framed, or shared with family.
Refunds & Expectations
What if my photo cannot be restored well?
Some photos have limited restoration potential, especially if they are extremely blurry, tiny, dark, or missing important facial details. If the original image does not contain enough visible detail, the final result may be limited.
Do you guarantee exact results?
No. Because each restoration is based on the quality of the uploaded image and AI-assisted interpretation, exact reconstruction, perfect facial detail, and exact historical colors cannot be guaranteed.
Can I get a refund?
Because each restoration is custom-created for your uploaded photo, orders cannot be canceled or refunded once work has begun. If there is a technical issue with your delivered file, please contact us and we’ll do our best to help.
Can I request changes?
Minor technical issues may be reviewed, but exact historical colors, personal preferences, or details not visible in the original image cannot be guaranteed. If you know specific color details, please include them when uploading your photo.
